The program proposes a parent-child relationship approach centered on the relationship itself, an approach that removes obstacles and opens the way to manifesting our innate sensitivity to seeing and responding to the emotional needs of our children. Parents will be encouraged to reflect on their own experiences and to understand the needs behind the children's behaviors. During the eight meetings, we will watch several movies that describe parent-child situations, with the purpose to train our eyes to detect the subtle signals that both children and parents transmit to each other through their behavior. Also, through various empathic reflection exercises, parents will be able to identify both areas of emotional comfort and possible vulnerability points in relation to their own children. After learning how to correctly read the emotional needs of their child, parents are taught how to support their child's ability to successfully manage emotions and by this, how to enhance the development of their child's self esteem. COS-P can function as a "map" that will guide parents to understand not only their children's emotional needs and how to deal with them, but also how to apply these techniques to themselves and other important relations.
The program is destinated for (future) parents/caregivers who have children between 0 and 6 years of age. For individual counselling, one or both of the parents can be present at each of the eight meetings. In what it concerns the group settings, parent groups begin every month when a group is formed (maximum number of participants is 8 persons).
